KP-Green Earth sets for next mangrove planting
KP-Green Earth project sets its next mangrove planting on February 12, 2012 in Banacon Island, Getafe, Bohol. This is a regular activity of Kanepackage Group (KPG) of companies as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility done every three months. Representative of Kanepackage employees from Japan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Philippines are expected to take part in the planting signifying the company’s commitment to plant 5 million mangroves in five years.
Aside from the quarterly mangrove planting activity, the people of the host community in Banacon are planting continuously. The number of planted propagules in Banacon now totalled 772,190.
This mangrove project in Banacon brought significant livelihood opportunities to the host community and thus added to their source of income. The KPG is giving cash incentives as payment to their collected and planted propagules. And, indirectly this reduces the fishing pressure in the nearby coastal areas as this gives diversification of livelihood.
